Case Study - The Premiere Kitchen Co Ltd
DLoG helps Premiere Kitchens monitor machine efficiency
DLoG has supplied a data collection system to Gloucester-based Premiere Kitchens to monitor the production of kitchen cabinet components prior to final assembly. The system, comprising an industrial PC to collect data and Prisma software for reporting purposes, is installed on a Homag combination edge bander used to affix PVC edging tape and strip to different sizes of melamine-faced chipboard (MFC). It enables Premiere to evaluate the efficiency of the machine, determining actual running time and downtime and when and why maintenance is required.
“The Homag operates 14 hours a day and is crucial in achieving production throughput,” explains operations manager Martin Didus. “The DLoG system allows us to monitor all the activities in real time as opposed to manual recording by operators, so it is accurate and there is no duplication of data.
“With a true reflection of what is happening we can determine at what periods the machine is working to full capacity. This will enable us to assess when it will become necessary to invest in another machine which has a 10-month lead-time from the manufacturer. So we need to plan well in advance to keep up with growth in business.”
The edge banding machine had been causing a bottleneck in the factory so Premiere initially installed the system on a three-month ‘try before you buy’ basis offered by DLoG to help companies justify the cost of an automated machine data collection system before making the financial commitment.
“This is a quality product and reasonably priced,” says Didus. “The benefits of the system were well-proven to us and DLoG has worked with us throughout to ensure the installation was a success with excellent service and back-up – crucial to us providing our customers with the turnaround they require.”
