The following tables provide an overview of the meaning of the IP codes:

1st identifying digit

0 = not protected

1 = protected against solid foreign bodies of 50mm diameter and larger

2 = protected against solid foreign bodies of 12.5mm diameter and larger

3 = protected against solid foreign bodies of 2.5mm diameter

4 = protected against solid foreign bodies of 1mm and larger

5 = protected against dust (no allowable damage to the device / no impairment to safety)

6 = dust-tight (no dust penetration occurs at a vacuum of 20mbar inside the housing
